Flexible actuators proven in Cape Town water treatment
AUMA PROFOX actuators ensure reliable and precise dosing of flocculent at Zandvliet wastewater treatment plant in Cape Town, South Africa.

AUMA’s new PROFOX actuators have been in operation for more than a year at Zandvliet wastewater treatment plant in Cape Town, South Africa. The customer is particularly happy with the reliability of the new actuators and their outstanding configuration flexibility.

Zandvliet is one of the first plants worldwide to be equipped with AUMA’s new PROFOX actuators. AUMA successfully launched the compact and intelligent actuator series in 2020.

At Zandvliet, 23 PROFOX actuators are used for automated delivery of flocculent to aid the removal of fine solids in new settlement basins. The small and lightweight actuators were a perfect fit for the small-diameter flocculent dosing pipes and the space constraints. Local service experts from AUMA South Africa installed and commissioned the actuators in July 2021. “Since then, the PROFOX actuators have been operating reliably and failure-free,” says Mark Mijatovic of AUMA South Africa.

The plant operator was particularly impressed with how easily and flexibly all the operating parameters could be adapted to the requirements of the application. Control parameters such as operating time and motor speed, for instance, can be easily adjusted using a smartphone or laptop. Just a few clicks in the software are needed to configure the digital inputs and outputs for the operation commands and feedback signals, and parameters such as the actuator’s direction of rotation.

The Zandvliet plant plays a major role in Cape Town’s wastewater treatment. The AUMA PROFOX actuators were installed alongside 100 new AUMA SA and SQ actuators as part of a comprehensive expansion and modernisation project. The City of Cape Town initiated this project to meet the needs of a rapidly growing population and increasingly stringent requirements for water quality.show more
