Ampo Poyam Valves has secured an order to supply around 15,000 valves for the first five liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants of NextDecade’s Rio Grande LNG project.

The terminal, currently under construction at the Port of Brownsville in the US state of Texas, is set to be one of the largest LNG export facilities, with a liquefaction capacity of around 48 million tonnes of LNG per year.

The supply comprises a wide range of valve technologies developed for the demanding operating conditions of LNG facilities. These include cryogenic ball, shut-off, globe and check valves, as well as non-cryogenic ball, shut-off, globe and check valves up to a size of 16 inches and a nominal load of 1,500 lbs.

LNG production in Texas from 2027

According to the company, most of the valves for units 1 to 3 have already been delivered. The first deliveries for unit 4 are scheduled for mid-July 2026, and those for unit 5 in the first quarter of 2027.

The aim is to commence LNG production at the Rio Grande LNG site in the first half of 2027. Operational trials are set to begin later this year.

NextDecade has already unveiled expansion plans for plants 6 to 8. According to the company, these could increase LNG production capacity by around 18 million tonnes per year.
